About Sand Paws
They're a lot of history here, and we'd love to share it with you:
A Tropical RealizationMany people seek pristine sandy beaches to relax on a lounge chair and watch the waves break on shore. My favorite way to relax is to build sandcastles. My wife and I recently spent our 33rd wedding anniversary vacationing on a Caribbean island, (the first time we had taken a trip without our three children since the first was born 25 years ago.) Since this was a vacation, I naturally brought along my trusty sand castle kit. It's not just something I picked up on the kids' aisle at the local store, but rather a collection I've compiled over the years. A heavy duty 5 gallon bucket for hauling water, another bucket with the bottom cut out, to pack sand and water into large forms to be carved, various pointy tools and spades for carving and etching, and of course my trusty digging shovel. This kit is more important than any other piece of luggage packed; you can always buy a new pair of swim trunks if they lose them, but you can't go pick up a kit like this at the store.
Well I built my share of good looking sandcastles on this trip, and had a good amount of fun. But I also realized how much fun other people had. My castles are larger than you average dinky plastic shovel and bucket castles, so they always attract people's attention and peak their interest. A lot of "Hey, what are you building?" and "That looks like fun, can we help?" I'm always thrilled to have a random hotel guest join in, or watch families spend genuine quality time with their kids as they come together to help me build. Parents would tell me how much fun their kids were having, and wives said the same about their husbands. Despite what my wife is always telling me, it appears that there are other people who want to build sandcastles. |
The Beginning of Sand PawsSand Paws is a family run company from Newport Beach, California. We sprouted from our other family business: Doggie Walk Bags. Beginning in our garage in 1988, we have been making bags for picking up after dogs. Our original blue, baby powder-scented bags have caught on, and our goal of keeping sidewalks, parks, and beaches clean has grown into a globally recognized brand over the past two decades. Still family run, this husband and wife team works together with their children, siblings, parents, in-laws, neighbors, and friends, as well as with local vocational programs for mentally handicapped students and adults.
The family that works together, plays together! We like to represent our company in local coastal events, especially in Newport Beach's annual Sand Castle Contest. We've been competing nearly as long as our business has been around, always trying to make the most spectacular castles or sculptures, and incorporating our love of dogs and our company. Seeing how our love for the sand has grown, and we want to share the love with fellow beach-goers. So we're bringing our favorite tools to you so you can create your own awesome castles with your friends and family! |
